Another leg breaker, another skilful player broken

Another player has a broken leg, another violent reckless challenge has gone unpunished by the referee. Meanwhile the FA stand by watching and absolutely sod all about it. We have already lost several Premiership players to broken bones this season as a direct result of overly aggressive and dangerous tackling, not to mention the number who have been put out for a few weeks with nasty sprains and bruising.

De Jong is the culprit this time and it isn't the first time for him. He won the ball with one leg, however this is irrelevant as the fact is that the tackle was reckless for two key reasons. Firstly if one has to scissor the player with the non tackling leg with the follow through then it is a foul, irrelevant of whether the first leg won the ball. Secondly the amount of force that De Jong used was excessive and endangered his opponent's safety. For these reasons the tackle was serious foul play and should have resulted in a red card.

The problem is that a lot of muppets in the media and around the game do not understand the basics of tackling. The BBC joked about Ben Arfa's misfortune, while Chris Waddle on ESPN seemed to think that there was nothing wrong De Jong's reckless and violent challenge. We have a major problem in this country and it badly needs addressing, players legs will continue to shatter in a quite needless manner until the FA decide to get off their lazy spoilt behinds and do something proactive about this violent cancer in the game.

Totally correct. Victims of these tackles and their clubs need to start suing for grievous bodily harm.

odlitHorrible challenge by de jong nearly as bad as the one he made on alonso wothout being punished, when he does play for the rich cunts he just stands in the middle of the park waiting to send a player in the air. Hope you are taking notice FA video panel!

Dutchman injuring a Frenchman; won't register at the FA.

It will take a leg break for the media darlings Rooney or Gerrard to have any impact

Sour grapes still by Arsenal fans? come on change the story.

Football is a contact sport.

Why is it Arsenal fans think they can change the contact game of football? How arrogant are they?

You need to look at how the pitches and footwear have changed over the last 5-6 years rather than try and ban tackling.

Tabloid headline Reader said...

Peteblog

How dumb are you?

What has the pitch or footwear got to do with the broken leg Ben Arfa got? He would have needed a suit of armour to avoid injury today.

I take it you are a follower of a team of cloggers by your petty minded jibes?

NO ONE is advocating the banning of contact you sad dimwitted plank. It is the over aggressive over the top full force needless lunges where the follow through smashes bones as was witnessed today.

The fact that you would rather take issue with a football fan who wants to highlught these needless injuries, instead of being appalled by yet another broekn leg shows you up to be a media fed brainless twat.

Well done you ignorant c*nt.

Now f*ck off and read the Sun you clueless w*nker.

Peteblog my dear please learn to read.

this is not about "banning tackling", its about punishing career threatning tackles, and getting rid of them, right now if player a brakes player b's leg he'll get 3 match ban for the red card while player b will be out for 9 months or in worst case scenario will have to retire from football.

don't you think there's something wrong with that ?

Ha

You are as deluded as your manager.

The pitches are sown with plastic these days, the blades get stuck in the turf, that is how ben arfa leg was broke because it was stuck in the turf, sme as valencia the other week.

How deluded are you to think over aggressive tackling can be banned, THAT IS FOOTBALL! I remember the 70's and 80's and the tackling was ten times as aggresive the difference was the pitches had give in them so studs would slide at all angles, now they can get stuck, combine that with a mistimed tackle ( which happens and is PART OF THE GAME) and you can get bad injuries.

Idiot.

Tabloid headline Reader said...

So petebog

You are an OLD CLUELESS WANKER THEN.

Thanks for clearing that up.

The game is 10 times as fast as it was back in your day old man.

That still does not mean we should condone these reckless challenges though.

To say they are part and parcel of the game shows your ignorance and blood lust.

What a snide despicable neanderthal you are.

If you had any brains, you would see it has nothing to do with being a fan of any particular team, but you insist on trying to make it so. Shows you up yet again. You really arent very good at this are you?

Pipe and slippers time for you grandad

Another Arsenal blogger choosing to discuss a matter completely unrelated to their game.

Lack of success bringing about the most blatant form of denial and deflection I have ever witnessed.

Yes bad challenges occur in the game and it's an issue that needs addressing but it certainly won't be done an Arsenal time.

You'll probably run a tape of today's game hoping to spot a bad Chelsea challenge instead of hoping to work out why you can't beat them. That's how obsessed you, and probably your manager, have become.

Anonymous said...

The only cancer in the game is Arsene and Arsenal's fans obsession with this issue.

Do you avoid talking about your own team because they are shite?

I've said many a times that till such tackles are allowed in EPL, english football is never going to improve. FA needs to take some serious steps. This is what is going to happen in the long run, the really good players are going to shy away from EPL. All players want to have a long career. Probably FA will wake if a big name english player meets such a fate.

Darsei said...

yeah, Fa needs changes. Ujfalusi is suspended for 12 games for an average tackle on Messi, whereas even a broken leg is nothing for FA.

1979gooner said...

anon tossers,

will be talking about arsenal's deficiencies later,

it is irrelevant to this clear fact, violent tackling must be dealt with adequately by the authorities

The FA wont do f..k all until a white englishman from manu or liverpool has his leg broken ie rooney or gerrard basically. Anyone else with a different

Havent seen the ben arfa challenge, but there is an alarming trend in this league. The henry tackle was shocking.
Certain players just dont seem to have any care for their opponents. They think that they are protected because they are on a football pitch, and the worst that will happen is a 3-match ban - and at the moment they are right!
Mis-timed tackles will always happen, and that's fine, but too often players will tackle with their feet off the ground (the eduardo and ramsey injuries were only so bad because the contact was above the ankle) or with a level of force that is WAYY above what is necessary, like the henry tackle.
And this idea that it's ok because certain clubs are "fighting for their lives" is bullshit. They're fighting for money, same as every body else!

Anonymous said...

listen, FUCK THE FA, the only way to change the thuggery of english football is to cut the money off. i have had enough this season of all the leg breaks and the cowards in the ESPN studio who condoned that dutch animal. i have cancelled ESPN and have told them the reason why.

i am one leg break away to telling SKY where they can stick my last 50 quid a month too.

this is the only way to change anything.

i am not paying anymore to see animals like that cripple the skillful players. do the same and then something will be done.

Good piece.

I haven't seen the tackle so can't comment on that, but there is no doubt too many people in England still can't see the difference between good tackles and bad tackles.

Converting a discussion on tackling into a boolean physical or non-physical debate is just inane and typifies the approach of some archaic managers and the fans of their clubs.

1979gooner said...

Cheers Desi,

very much agree on the physical/non-physical line

would those who think it's a physical game accept bringing an axe onto the field as ok?

can i just say something, essiens tackle on diaby was the worst tackle of the season,it was not reckless rash or stupid it was calculated and cowardly intent on hurting the opposition rather than 50/50 for a ball, still we will all witness this again and again from this high class clogger as the season goes on,just as we have in seasons gone by

haha, i love the way people just decide to start saying its arsenal fans who are idiots cos they dont like people getting broken legs in football. lets be honest, all you people are the sh*t footballers who have no skill an cant read the game, but because you want to join in the social side you turn up on a sunday and kick people then have a beer an laugh about it after the game..
i also like that guys post earlier which says arsenal are 'shite' =D thats a good contribution to the subject matter.. i hope he's reading this... are you completely pathetic my friend? I genuinely hope someone breaks your leg playing football. amd preferably your face aswell.

Some useful comments too:

- I didn't know the bloke who nobbled Messi had been banned for 12 games. Similar FA intervention is the only way to prevent thugs like De Jong flourishing. Pep G was spot on - skilful players like Messi shouldn't be protected, everyone should.

- Agree with those disgusted by the pundits. BBC were having a right laugh, mentioned it as a casual aside as if it were a minor issue, probably as De Jongs friend, Seedorf, was on the panel.

Anons are right - needs to be a white England player not a French muslim for them to care. That was blatantly obvious - Hansen was so indifferent that he could hardly even splutter out the obligatory, We wish him well". Too busy having laughs. Really unprofessional from an the ex-professionals.

It seems we are having a public battle over the soul of football between those who see it as a beautiful game like the Wengers and Arsenal Barcelona school and those who like the physical contact element such as the Mourinhos Hughes Allerdyces.

This in itself translates on a lower levle to those who love football as they can play football and those who love football but cant play very well and compensate by labelling themselves as defenders or "destroyers". ie I cant play very well but nobody gets past me type.

While not everyone can be be blessed at sport, the latter types are the problem as it bring in lowest common denominator football. They condone thuggery at a pro level as that is very loosely related to the only thing they they can do ie flatten skilful players or passing teams. They sadly think that this makes them footballers too, or at least they are part of the loop, the football community,as they are desperate not to be left out. Its a bit like looking at the pictures in a book and saying you love reading and literature.

However, deep down it is all based on the resentment towards those with talent which they seek to destroy in order to make them feel less unworthy in a world, especially their world, where football is everything.

As there are more mungoes than talents then the mungoes will prevail unless they are shamed into submission by the FA, the media, and ultimate themselves by somehow achieving self-awareness of their defects and finally accept what they are.

De Jong is a professional Mungo paid to a job. His job to destroy the opponents flow. He did that with the tackle and put some deliberate extra pressure on Ben Arfa by following through to scare him as new player to the league. Sadly the combination of the angle of attack and the force and the sheer phsyics of being twice the size led to a horrible leg break. Did he mean to break his leg? No. But did he mean to hurt him? Absolutely. This was a warning shot that accidentally killed the target. He needs to be held accountable as the intent was there, clear as day.

As a former ref, I do know that proportionate force is a key component in the law. Did he have to use that much force against the smaller man? No, therefore it is classed as unnecessary aggression. Might is right is not an English concept, fairness and giving everyone a chance is.

The FA should bring him to book but they won't as it does not affect them. This will only be addressed if it is Wayne Rooney or Stevie G that gets put out for 9 months and they realize the destructive nature of football needs to be phased out for good.

The best possible solution is that someone does this to Wayne Rooney so that the FA finally act when one of their sons gets it. This would give Rooney a break from football (no pun intended), gain him much needed sympathy, and may even galvanize the Gdfather, Ferguson, into adding his voice to Wengers to have the thuggery stamped out (pun intended).

let's see if any of these hard men have the guts to try it. I doubt it. Much easier to pick on a small French muslim kid who just got off the boat.

EPL - shame on you.

the fact is that rugby is also a contact sport and yet there are certain rules in rugby and these include preventing dangerous tackles, eg spear tackles. if a player is guilty of making a dangerous tackle he is suspended - and no rugby fan says, 'oh i suppose they want to ban tackling altogether next'. strangely enough, rugby protects its players better than football.

at the end of the day, the over physicall game in the EPL is the reason behind players losing there football careers, now u cannot blame it on the turf or the blades or speed or strength as this only has a small affect but the biggest one is the players being allowed to do these sort of tackles and it be seen as normal, you dont see people breaking there legs an gettin lifted in the air in any other league an they have the same pitches and blades, why do u think the england team lack flair, its down to the fact that as a young player trying to express there skills instead they get mauled over by a kid thats about 2stone heavier, so you get mre destroyers than creaters comin up threw the ranks hence why england struggle to create fuck all in the world cup, and spain are smashing it playing football, like look at walcott n wilshere them players wouldnt have that playing style from watchin a english player... they got it from there team idols u know like walcott=henry wilshere=fabs even ramsey started playing like fabs intell sum destyroyer came along an snaped his leg i mean even now people say that shawcross didnt mean to hurt him well watched how fast and think as a footballer wat is shawcross thinking wen he goes in for this ball as ramsey trys to get a toe to it to pass i repeat pass it n does so... well wat was sharcross thinking to do with it as in all honesty if he wins the ball it goes up n into the stands so tell me is that normal wen sharcross is in our half, not on the edge of his in our half n hes looking to clear a ball into the stands, lol no hes looking to hurt ramsey the fucking idiot, hence why ramsey dont want to c him, now the EPL can boast about it being the greatest league but its on the spiral as the top players are looking to get out, fabs. torres an now even roooney lol, sort it out its a fucking joke, the players getting injured are moastly players that are skillfull and try to play the game an would flourish ne were else, this injury list is guna get brought to light and embarrass the league n then fail to bring in top players, look at ronbihno i know hes a lazy cunt but there was a reason behind that, he started ausome an then the EPL got to him.. il put my life on it that hes 1 of the star players in the champions league

So, Mr Peteblog and the pro-reckless tacklers, egg on your faces, big time.

This is all stemming from the
british yob media culture.

They will keep on having a go at Wenger and it will unfortunately take an England star ( Rooney or Gerrard) to be injured for the media to take notice.

I have done some player ratings on my new arsenal blog; hope you do not mind if i link it up here:

It should be subtitled "Why England Will Never Win The World Cup In Our Lifetimes".

arsenal articles-correct-british yob culture-we live in a society where there is little respect for anything or anyonee-the brits are by nature a warlike race-this translates to their sports & in particular football where the"hard man" image is justified either through neanderthal tribes trying to kill each other or on the pitch with leg breaking tackles-just look at those involved in these incidents & you will see who most of their managers are-until an english golden boy "gets his"the fa will do fa as usual-the spineless c**ts!!

i feed up of people saying football is a contact sport. if that was the case there would be no fucking fouls. yes you can tackle and jossle with an opponent but too much conatct with an opponent results in a foul.ita mentality in british football that you can be hard but go for the ball it doesn't matter if you break someones leg as long as you go for the ball it doesn't matter.

someone said earlier a dutchman injuring a french man won't register with the fa and he is right. can you imajin the outrage if it was Joey Bartonmn breaking Rooney's leg. Remember how the press went mad when beckham had his foot broken in a challenge with Aldo Duscher.

This 'fair thug' mentality is why managers like tony pulis and sam alladyce will never manage abroad or for a bigger team. if Alladyce has ambitions of managing england then he needs to show he is capabile of gathering skillful players, who can play good football and be strong.

I have only seen the de jong/ben arfa incident once and have to admit i did not think it was malicious but i will have to look again. i though the sending off of karl henry was worse because he went nothing other than the player and his intention was to bring him down not matter the conseequences.

And players will continue to get hurt as long as this mentality remains in british football.

And yes i am an arsenal fan but i dont think every one is out to get us by bullying or being rough.

i want to see fair football not players being kicked and injured by over the top tackles.
