Mashed spuds for tea

Sometimes it is hard to turn one's thoughts and emotions into words, and today's game has overwhelmed me in this manner.  The media had written us off, some sections of our own support had done the same, Tottenham were many peoples' favourites and the general media love in was becoming quite sickening.  One certain journalists, Henry Winter, had dared to suggest that only one Arsenal player would get in a combined North London XI.

We learnt today that the hype over Tottenham is just hype, the reality of their team and players does not match the hot air.  We also learnt that we are not nearly as bad as some sections of our own support would have us believe.  In fact the convincing nature of this stirring comeback to victory has firmly rammed a lot of things back down certain peoples' throats in a rather enjoyable manner, it was majestic.

So many players stood up to be counted today, Rosicky and Benayoun being two prime examples of players who worked their socks off and played Tottenham off the park in the midfield for large portions of the game.  Even though we looked a bit dodgy defensively early on in the first half, we grew into the game and Tottenham continued to lose the midfield battle after about the first ten minutes.

Our movement and passing was excellent, there was plenty of give and go, lots of one twos, lots of hassling and pressing the opposition when we didn't have the ball.  Song and Arteta were the defensive midfield engine room, Benayoun and Rosicky were the bustling attacking midfield force, while RVP brilliance up front was summed up with his ridiculously perfect equalising goal, Theo had a poor first half, but became a threat as the space appeared, and his finishing was top notch for his brace.

Tottenham were dangerous early on, mainly down to some rather cavalier defending, Saha's movement was useful and Bale's pacey running is tough to defend against.  It cannot be denied that Bale cheated to win Tottenham's dodgy first half penalty, no contact whatsoever from Szczesny but he threw himself down and Dean obliged.  Parker showed he is only good enough to polish Song's boots, while the lack of Lennon was a pleasant surprise for many of us I suspect.

5-2 and so thoroughly deserved, and how sweet given the amount of hype that has surrounded this Tottenham side.  The team had proper full backs, it had eleven players all fighting hard for the cause, and these two things have not always been there this season.  It is games and results like these that one has to savour as a football fan, it does not get any better for me.  5-2.  Just keep saying it, 5-2, 5-2.......

Best comment I read on twitter " The best Spuds team in 50 years lost against the worst Arsenal team in our history".

gotta react to this tripe...
i think someone once said the prem is a marathon rather than a sprint so take a look at the table.
mind you i can't blame you gooners for being so elated about winning a game as they're aint been too many of 'em lately have there?
let's see where spurs are in relation to the ars n all at the end of the season & mabe even next (especially when van persie goes 'cos he wants champions league footy - something i don't think he'll be getting next season with you lot).
what isaw today was an arsenal team playing way above their form & a spurs team playing way below theirs & that ain't gonna happen too many times in a season

Got to hand it to you're lot, you played well today. If I was an Arsenal supporter though I'd be furious. If you can put on that kind of display what have they been doing for the rest of the season?

The poor Spuds' fans are struggling to react here! It's fun to watch them squirm. '61 and never again. Always in our shadow.

Well well anon reatct to this tripe what a bitter dipstick you are how many seasons have spuds been anywhere near a top 3 or 4 place which begs the question are you really as good as your position suggests maybe its a case of you lot playing above your weight because RVP or not you will have us believe we have one world class player and you lot have four hmmmm where are or were they. Anyway put your dummy back in.

Arsenal played well and credit to them. Spurs were well below par and not playing Lennon was a mistake. Maybe the fickle Arsenal fans will lay off Wenger now. Also as the ref gave a pen, whether it was or wasn't is irrelevant. Why wasn't the player sent off or at least booke? Bale was through on goal.

I agree with the journalist
2 of Arsenal players would make the Spurs team 9 from Spurs would make the Arse team. But if you don't play to your strengths and pass the ball you can come unstuck which is why Spurs lost today.

plus it should have 5-0 really given their dubious penalty and a flukey deflection.

Fickle Arsenal fans?

Have a look round the Totteringham blogs mate - everyone is calling for Harry's head!

Hilarious.

The funny thing is, in your heart of hearts you Spudders know we're going to overhaul you for third now. When ManUre beat you next week and we beat the Dippers the gap will be 4 points and your time-honoured fragility will reassert itself with a vengeance.

YOU LOT MAKE ME GIGGLE !! YOU WON !! RELLENDS YOU PISSED YOUR KNICKERS ?? ( IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN 5-0) ?? WHO CARES !! ZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

A few fickle Spurs fans, yes. But after your last week and even before then the internet and the radio was full of Gooners calling for Wenger to leave. I just don't get it. If Spurs go back to playing how they can do then they can finish above Arsenal. Belief us needed. I can see you guys having a tough time next week away.

Bad day at office LoL you lot have been having them for years do you seriously think you will string more top 4 finish at a time. that much i really doubt with the seasons both us and chavs are having. do not blow it table seems to be tilting a bit better hold on !!!!!

What I saw today was a spurs team playing to their normal form, as history will prove, and an Arsenal side reverting back to form, as history will also prove.
Spurs sit above Arsenal in the table for one reason: they take care of the little teams (win those that they should) - Arsenal have been struggling with that in the past 6 or 7 years - which is why they are where they are.
If Arsenal were to have beaten those they should have - it would be Arsenal, ManU, and Citeh all within a few points on top.
But alas, we have a bit to go, with only Liverpool and Citeh in our way of 12-game sweep to claim 3rd or 4th this season.

Agreed some of our so called supporters are indeed fickle as a gooner i say support your team through thick and thin stop listening to the press. It annoys me that we can pick on any player one minute and love him the next. our next game is against some of the most LOYAL fans you can find c'mpn gunners show your loyalty !!!!!

The scum have been having a bad day at the office since 1961 lol. RVP or Defoe? Vermaelen or King? Wilshere or Sandro? 13 titles or 2? 15 years of glory or 1 of 'CL Qualification Glory'? Mmm...

Brilliant spurs comments, keep them coming, very amusing indeed

Super, super performance!

If only we can make the adjustment to play on an uneven and less perfect pitch, Arsenal will be capable of beating any team in the Premiership.

Lovely to see our lads turning them Spuds into mushy peas!

what a load of rubbish, this was your cup final, the best you played all season, it was do or die, backs against the wall stuff. If you had lost today you would have been booed off the pitch and labeled a disgrace to the badge, and the calls for wenger to go would have been deafening....so, you played your hearts out and gave your all and won a game of football. Well done! I doubt if we will see another performance like that again this season from the arsenal. Wenger knows and Walcott is a good player and Arteta is a midfield dynamo and blah blah blah, Im just annoyed we dropped 3 points.

Good day for the lads, its funny how myles palmer @ ANR only posts immediately after a game when we get smashed. COM ON ARSENAL

whenever I open that ANR blog by accident I wish that I could downvote it somewhere. what a bitter and horrible person

still laughing at you gooners!
all this crowing about your team winning a game!! well i suppose you should celebrate something which doesn't often happen.
as for you monkeys droning on about temporary form & class being permanent .. let's not delude ourselves into thinking the arse will make it above spurs or into the champs league this season or next season & probably beyond especially when RVP sods off in the summer... so perhaps this could be the norm from now on then.. :0)

bubbles isn't there a famous chimp after your name or is it you you dropped 3 points ha,ha oh how the mighty have almost fallen you forgot to add we are delusional as always LoL.

Yesterday's game proved that the table DOES lie... until the end. And at the end, the wanky Tottenham Hotspur hasn't finished above The Arsenal in 17 years, and it will be a lot more than that before it finally happens again.

Brilliant result and great performance...Don't loose the head though! It is still a poor team and needs to be rebuilt. Spurs were very poor there hihg line defence was a mistake. Plus its taking Wenger 6 months to realise this is 4-5-1 team!
