Milijas red card correctly upheld
So the FA's independent commission have upheld Stuart Attwell's decision to send off Milijas for his reckless lunge on Mikel Arteta two days ago. I have had to listen to a lot of guff from people trying to defend the tackle as 'fair' because it won the ball, sadly these people clearly have zero grasp on the laws of football and the use of excessive reckless force in tackling, even if the ball is won.
It was not the worst reckless tackle I have seen, but in my opinion there was enough recklessness and force to easily justify Attwell's decision and this has been confirmed by the independent commission. The FA have rescinded the joke Wigan red card at Old Trafford, showing they are quite capable of reversing a poor decision.
I can easily understand the arguments of some people who admit it was a dangerous tackle but that a yellow would have sufficed, this is an opinion, and neither right or wrong. The line between a nasty yellow and a red is fine, this will always be a grey area in interpretation of the degrees of force and recklessness used in a tackle.
However the idiots who claim it was a fair tackle because it won the ball need to educate themselves before boring us with their misguided drivel. The photo above shows just how dangerous Milijas' lunge was, he flew in, he was out of control, the straight leg with studs up flew in hard and fast, it was just lucky that Arteta saw it coming and managed to avoid a serious season ending injury. Well done to the FA, for once.

The idiots will only agree that the tackle is reckless if they see bones sticking out, legs bent out of unnatural shape and alignment. Otherwise it is a fair tackle for them!

Easterngooner,
No they won't. When that happens the idiot in question is held up by his manager, teammates, sky sports, Uncle Tom Cobley and all as being "not that kind of player" , ignoring in many cases all kinds of past misdemeanours which show him to be exactly that kind of player.
Indeed clockendrider,
we have seen the idiots trying to defend the reckless tackles that have actually maimed (shawcross/eduardo/diaby etc)
the same idiots have slated arsenal players for far milder tackles
there is no logic or consistency to some people's arguments and this is all I want to expose
there are a lot of biased individuals who apply different rules depending on who an offence as committed by, it is easily to point out the stupidity in their arguments and biased vitriol, also quite fun!
nice opinion but can i just say that i don't like the words "educate yourself" because that durham tosser on talk sport uses the same phrase. apart from that well done.
haha
fair point!
Up your Mick ass Wolves (as I am Irish myself this comment can not be raciest)
I have noticed, really ever since the taylor challenge on eduardo, that arsenal players rarely make high tackles on players these days, and as a result, rarely injure opponents through the impact of the tackles. The players will sometimes mistime a challenge, but I can't remember a single instance of one of our players making a really dangerous tackle since the aforementioned incident. Because of this, it really bothered me when they started implying that we were a team of hypocrites when eboue made a late (but hardly dangerous) tackle, and when a few similar missed tackles occurred. For that reason I have to say I don't think this was a very bad challenge at all, but it was late and did deserve a yellow card, which would have resulted in a red anyway. There is always a risk of injuries resulting from missed tackles, but milijas actually made contact very low with arteta, on the ground (despite the way he came into the tackle, judging from the photo), and in such cases, the chances of a bad injury are very low.
It is a shame that the ref didn't show him a second yellow, rather than a straight red but that's my only complaint.
It's the exactly the same type of tackle that Taylor did on Eduardo only Arteta didn't try to touch the ball aside. If he did he would be in hospital because of it.
Hahahahhaha Milijas red card is upheld because his name is not Steven Gerard or Frank Lampard... So FA don't care about some player who is just backup for Wolves first team. Tackle was clear and fair, Arteta was in front of him, face to face also Milijas is well known as slow player not speedy from Africa so Arteta had time to avoid tackle and avoid any danger of injury instead of that he decided to dive.

The joke's on you, my friend.
Your interpretation of events is a joke in itself, thank you for the laughs.
This article is clearly biased - "not another Arsenal blog" says it all. If Arteta had done it to Milijas you'd all be screaming for it to be overturned so he could play for you and help you to win nothing for the 7th consecutive season - you lot also seem to miss Alex Song's little passage of play where he did something far more dangerous than Milijas TWICE but without punishment. You're just frustrated because you couldn't beat lowly Wolves.

Utter tripe my friend.
Milijas' tackle was nasty and reckless for the reasons clearly expplained above, reasons that you have not addressed or even commented on.
Song's offence was mild in comparison, it wasn't more than slightly late tackle, a tackle which was not out of control of reckless, he didn't throw his body weight into it in the out of control fashion that Milijas did, he also didn't have the straight leg with studs up, the manner of which is extremely dangerous as there is no give in it.
To say that Song's was worse than Milijas is nonsensical and cannot be justifed with a reasoned argument, you prove this my just saying it's worse and then not even bothering to justify your baseless horse manure.
Frustrated we didn't bear Wolves yes.
Even if we'd have won 4-0 I would still want to see Milijas sent off and a three game ban for what was genuinely a dangerous and reckless challenge.

right to everyone saying that the tackle had excessive force, I disagree as actually if he had put any less force into the tackle he would not of won the ball and therefore it wasn't 'excessive' force, and seen at as the rules say that players should be sent off for a reckless tackle with excessive force he shouldn't of been sent off.
Also I believe that it shouldn't even of been a foul as he played the ball before the man and made no attempt to hurt the man, I know people will disagree with this but I believe that football is a contact sport and injuries, therefore, are an unfortunate part of the game. And I wouldn't take injuries out of the game if it means that people are scared of getting sent off for innocent tackles.
