Rooney harsly punished by moronic UEFA

I am no Wayne Rooney fan first of all, in fact I would go as far as saying he is a rather odious individual, so the fact that even I think he has been harsly punished by UEFA should say a lot to you. Rooney kicked out, yes, but it was a pretty mild act. If that was an Arsenal player then I'd have said it was a very harsh red card and arguably it should have been just a yellow. Rooney wasn't helped by the theatrical reaction from the defender.

If you watch the 'kick out' in real time it really is a very very mildly violent act. Even if you accept it deserved a red card then he should have only got the standard one match ban. The fact that UEFA have increased this ban to three games and labelled it an 'assault' is utterly pathetic and incoherent.

UEFA are much like the FA in many ways, they are an unaccountable bunch of biased tossers who like to perpetuate their own vested interests and their victimisation of Rooney proves this. Rooney is an idiot but his little kick out does not deserve a three match ban, this is not fair and it is not proportionate.

of course this is a red card. Just as it was when gervinho shambolically "hit" barton. When players who earns millions cant behave more then that, they deserve to be banned. any hit/kick or attempt is a strait red. we all saw it even worse demonstrated when vieira kicked out at vanhorseface. Sadly the opponent makes the most out of it, but that does not excuse the idiots.

i am so sorry. if you kick a fellow player its a red. you try kicking a passenger in a train.

What nonsense. Rooney fully deserves a three game ban at least. If Barton or Karl Henry or someone like that did this to an Arsenal player you would be calling for a 6 game ban and assault charges. Now i'm an Arsenal fan too. This is a cut and dry 3 game ban. He kicked out at the defender in an act of petulance that is typical of this guys behaviour. No excuses, he fully deserves what he got. End of.

Shit commentary. When you play in Europe, you have to behave, the level is different.

I don't agree with your assessment this time. If he was reacting to being fouled, or being frustrated by being repeatedly fouled I would be sympathetic.

But this was Rooney, just being Rooney, and for once not being able to get away with it.

That wasn't kicking out after being floored, that was, "how-dare-this-unknown-Montenegra-get-the-better-of-me. Have-a-piece-of-that-fucker" kind of kick, and it was rightly got the punishment it deserved.

Wrong, wrong, wrong. Kicking an opponent in such a spiteful and cowardly way (player's not even facing Rooney), with no attempt to hide behind 'going for the ball' is 100% RED. No "ifs, ands, or "buts". I was frankly surprised at suggestions before the ban was passed down that anyone would think it was anything other than 3 match ban for violent conduct.

Another Rooney Card
Rooney's silly mistake has resulted to be very costly for England. He will now miss half the tournament. The question is who replaces him? Will Crouch come back?

Essentially it was Assault! that is how Fifa viewed it...

if you went up to someone in the street and kicked them you could be arrested!

This really is unacceptable behaviour.. he isnt a young lad anymore and should be leading by example..
yes, he is an aggressive striker and that is good.. he will get cards for being over eager but a straight red for a petulant kick is just not acceptable in an england shirt!

as much as we need rooney in england team.. i would like to see him left out of the squad all together for Euros.. maybe he woudl finally learn his lesson...

rooney is a moron. He kicked him deliberately. How can you defendf that piece of shit?

I think Wayne should take UEFA to court on the grounds that the punishment is to harsh.

Some pretty pathetic comments overall.

Sad that some of you can't be slightly objective in assessing this kind of things.

It is pretty clear that in the context of football Rooney's act was pretty mild and a rather mild straight red card compared to some of the more serious genuine violence we see in the form of elbowing/leg breaking tackles etc.

It was a little kick out. If you look back then refs often yellow card these little petulant kicks, of course they sometimes red card them too, however in my opinion a yellow is more appropriate for these little petulant acts that are pretty mild.

The comments comparing this to doing this to someone on a train or on the street are utterly nonsensical and idiotic I'm afraid.

The football pitch is not the street or the train, it has to be seen in the conext of football.

If we started seeing Boxing in context with the train then we would be called stupid, I suggest the same for comparing this kind of onfield footballing incident. Silly.

A one match ban? Maybe. Three match ban is way way OTT.

BTW I am not defending Rooney, despite some of you saying I am, quite unfairly and dishonestly in actual fact.

I have said what he did was stupid and deserved punishment, however what I am saying is that it wasn't that bad in context and his punishment is OTT and unfair.
