Hysteria exposes media's partiality and Bolton's ridiculous whining

Firstly Mark Davies has not sustained a serious injury, and obviously every Arsenal fan would wish him a quick recovery to footballing action. I am not surprised it is not as serious as some people feared, as it really wasn't that bad a tackle from Gallas. Paul Robinson, a Bolton player who did far worse to Cesc at the weekend, called it 'disgusting', obviously this man doesn't possess a mirror or television, a mirror to look at his own ugly face and a television to see how his tackles are routinely worse than Gallas'. The frenzied Owen Coyle likened the tackle to an 'assault', bizarre words given how mild Gallas' tackle was compared to what we see dished out in the Premiership week in week out.

The way in which Arsene Wenger has behaved has been rather brilliant, he has even apologised 'if it was a foul', something that no Bolton manager has ever done despite some of the quite brutish violent things that their players have done over the years. Various Bolton supporters have been quick to jump on the moral high ground, strange given their team's and players' history of kicking lumps off anything that has a pulse for the past decade or two. Any Bolton fan may wish to remember this game as one of just numerous examples of how their thuggish cloggers got away with numerous red card tackles injuring several of our players in the process, Ljungberg and Lauren were taken out for several weeks on this occasion with far worse tackles that the Gallas one.

The 'Gallas furore' is a creation of the media and Bolton's, it is not based on the reality of Gallas' mildly dangerous tackle, fact and evidence have been ignored, the hysterical reaction based on emotional bias has begun. I have watched the tackle several times today in the cold light of day and it is a yellow card offense at worse. He goes in for the ball, he has his studs up dangerously, however his leg is never straight, he is never out of control with his body weight, it is a definite foul and a yellow card for the studs up, that's it, it is never a red card, it is certainly no 'assault' and it is certainly not 'disgusting'. One of the most objective Arsenal commentators around is firm with his assessment and feels it is a yellow card, no more. Nigel Winterburn has also commented in the media today stating that it is a massive over reaction from Bolton and that it is more of a yellow card tackle.

The media's and Bolton's reaction have been nothing but an embarrassment. The media routinely ignore far worse tackles on players without even commenting, they have just decided to sell a few extra papers by sensationalising a pretty unexciting story. Bolton's reaction has also been an absolute disgrace. They have been hypocritical in the extreme. In the past they have been guilty of numerous offences far worse than Gallas' tackle, they have never apologised for some truly reckless violent play, they have never tried to play football fairly, there has always been an underlying cynical, aggressive and unpleasant edge to their game. Take Matt Taylor's off the ball attack on Cesc last weekend or Knight's manhandling of Carlos Vela as he attacked him by the scruff of the neck.

Bolton had a little bad luck last night but overall the better side won the game, why not get on with things and stop trying to sensationalise the mundane? I am sure the ridiculous whining emanating from up north will continue for a little while yet, I am quite enjoying it though, it shows Bolton in the true colours, a bunch of hypocrites who are very happy to dish it out, but when something relatively little is dished back to them, they go crying for their mummies.

  1. It was possibly a yellow I think (and while you might call it harsh, we couldn't have complained too much if it was a red either I think), I'd love to hear the ref's reasoning for not blowing at the time, did he think it was a pure 50/50 challenge?

Other than that, Bolton's reaction has been pathetic... It seems their cloggers and hoofers can dish out the bad tackles but can't take it when they come back at them.

If it had been the other way around we'd be hearing all about how "soft southern arsenal players don't like it up them".

I'm glad the player isn't seriously injured after all - wouldn't wish that on anyone - but other than that the hypocrites at Bolton can get knotted.

  2. I think you mean "the media's partiality" the are certainly not impartial when it comes to Arsenal.

  3. 100% correct the amonut of times Bolton have kick chunks out of players without even a yellow card being shown. Owwn Coyle is shockinh he leaves Burnley high and dry then moans that gallas tackle was assult when his [players did 10x worse all the respect i had from him gone

  4. I think it would have been a ridiculous red card.

Fine if he jumped into the tackle but he didn't, he just had his studs up and was well in control of his momentum.

  5. In control of his momentum?

If he was he could have pulled out! Gallas had no intention of going for the ball, the 'tackle' was late & dangerous.

As usual Whinger didn't see it - that man should be signed up for the Spec Savers ads!

  6. who cares about soft bolton, fuck them, if you cant take it dont dish it out you bunch of gorrillas

  7. anonymous,

you clearly lack a bit of understanding,

he was in control as he was able to quickly change direction and move in the opposite direction,

if he was not in control then he would have continued through into the tackle and nailed Davies properly,

as it was he didn't put that much force into it, compared to if he has been out of control

I think Bolton fans and Owen Coyle need the specsavers adds, you also need some new jokes

  11. its so ironic that these bolton mugs are complaining about a bad challenge. ur whole shit-kicking game is based on strong challenging and wen u get one back u start crying.

i for one hope the lad has a quick recovery but the bolton supporters can go fuck themselves. hypocritical wankers.

  12. remember robinson's stud raking down cesk's achilles/ankle last weekend?

exactly the same kind of tackle as Gallas', a yellow card, nuff said

  13. wow! Someone taught the Bolton chimps how to use a PC... well done HMPs, you get too little credit. The tackle was clumsy. It happens. Gallas and the Arsenal team didn't have an objective of kicking any ankle, shin, or body part of the opposition. That's how Bolton play. That's how crap Premiership teams play. If a decent team is passing the ball they come in and foul (intentionally) continually, or like in the Birmingham game the crap team comes out to intimidate by breaking the legs of players who are technically much better than the neanderthals. Maybe next year when they're doing OK in the Championship and getting booted continually by worse teams they might understand. Being stupid and Bolton I wouldn't put money on it.

ARSENAL CAN PLAY SOME GOOD STUFF – NOBODY DENIES THIS.

FANS ALSO DON’T OBJECT TO SOMETIMES TEAMS ROUGHING IT UP – AS LONG AS THEY CAN TAKE IT.

WHAT PEOPLE CANT STOMACH IS ARSENAL WANTING IT BOTH WAYS AND APPLYING DOUBLE STANDARDS.

WANTING PROTECTION FOR THEIR FAIRY FOREIGNERS WHILST DIVIGN AND CHEATING – YET TOPPING THE PREMIERSHIP BOOKINGS AND SENDINGS OFF LEAGUE THEMSELVES. JUST MAKES THEM LOOK LIKE UTTER TWATS, NOBODY RESPECTS THAT KIND OF BEHAVIOUR.

THE DEFINITIVE IMAGE OF WHAT ARSENAL ARE ALL ABOUT WAS THERE FOR ALL TO SEE A FEW YEARS AGO.

    IN THE TUNNEL – HIGHBURY

MANCHESTER UNITED IN TOWN – BIG GAME

VIERA TRIES TO ACT THE HARDMAN – ROY KEANE SEEKS HIM OUT AND PUTS HIM IN HIS PLACE.

VIERA ALONG WITH THE REST OF THE ARSENAL SIDE (EVEN THOUGH ON HOME TURF) SHIT THEMSELVES

KENAE LEAVES THEM WITH ONE SIMPLE MESSAGE

‘I’L LSEE YOU OUT THERE’ – NONE OF THEM SHOWED UP.

ITS ON YOUTUBE IF YOU MISSED IT FIRST TIME AROUND.

ARSENAL FC – ALL PISS AND WIND AND TO BOOT POISSIBLY THE WORST AWAY SUPPORT IN THE LEAGUE WHO LOOK AND SOUND LIKE A LOAD OF MIDDLE CLASS ‘POST SKY TV’ SOCCER TOFFS HAND PICKED FROM UNIVERSITY CHALLENGE – AS SAD AND LAUGHABLE AS TOUGH GUY GALLAS CRYING OVER A MISSED PENALTY.

  15. andy north stand,

you make a point, but very badly,

the few facts you use are wrong, arsenal have in fact one of the best disciplinary records in the past few seasons,

you may not like vieira, i fail to see what keane trying to start a fight in the tunnel with him has to do with this,

thanks for calling us the worst support in the league,

maybe next time you could stop shouting in capitals and make a slightly better point that saying you don't like arsenal

we're middle class soccer toffs are we?

well i can think of quite a few things that are worse to be than this, and what's wrong with university challenge? are you jealous that some people know of things other than football?

  16. 'worst away support'...coming from a Bolton fan?? Oh dear

  17. "'worst away support'...coming from a Bolton fan?? Oh dear"

United fan. FFS you dont do Arsenal fans any favours.

  18. Coyle calls that assault??

For me assault is more kin to that tackle campo inflicted on diaby a few seasons back destroying his ankle and keeping him out of the game for 9 months.
Gallas did no worse than that thug Robinson did to cesc last weekend. Robinson should also fuck off back to building houses or whatever he did before he was a professional hacker

  19. If you want to know the real reason for why yet again the media have jumped all over this story then you need look no further than the commentators on sky last night. Tony Gale being the main culprit along with the guy sitting sitting next to him (can't remember his name) who just gets swept along with Mr Gale's views and goes along with them! If you remember, they were the same pair that commentated on the arsenal v celtic game when "penalty gate" occurred. If you recall on that game, from the moment the incident occured until the final whistle & beyond neither of these guys would shut up about it and the same thing happened again last night with gallas! Because both of them act as if someone had been murdered (with their impartial views) the media just react to it like it's the biggest story since world war 2!!!! Therefore it's Tony Gale that needs to be asked the question as to what his problem with the arsenal!

    ReplyDelete
  20. The Eduardo / Celtic incident commentator who went on and on about it was Clive Tyldsley i think not Tony Gale.

Last night Tony Gale did the exact same thing though and should not be allowed to commentate on an Arsenal game again.

Any time a Bolton player made a bad challenge he just chuckled and made a joke out of it, but when Arsenal did it he went on like it was the worst crime in the word.

He also sounded like he has some romantic intentions for Kevin Davies, anyone would thing Zidane was wearing a Bolton shirt last night.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Sky have a long tradition of being utterly useless and biased in analysing incidents like this,

there are numerous examples of players being victimised for nothingy tackles/dives

eduardo's dive, ngog's dive, gallas' tackle, eboue's red at old trafford,

players like gerrard and rooney get away with regular dives and straight leg lunges while Sky just ignore them, it is truly pathetic and completely lacking in impartiality,

for example in these two bolton games, taylor's off the ball assault on cesc and robinson's stamp down cesc's achilles were both way worse than gallas' nothingy tackle, but both were ignored by the mainstream media and Sky

    morons the lot of them

  22. oi!andy north stand-you are a complete & utter ignorant prick-CAN YOU UNDERSTAND THAT SON?!!!

  23. oi!andy norf stand-i seem to remember VIERA butting keano who shit himself & constantly had kean oh!in his pocket-does arsenal beating you scumbags for the title refresh your memory at your gaff lol!!!

  24. Im surprised no one has brought up eduardo's injury!
Sky sports were following TAYLOR's recovery at least as closely as eduardo's and immediately after the incident everyone rallied behind the defender.
It would be harsh to say that tackle was definitely intentional, but the same could be said of gallas' - and our player's challenge was nowhere near as dangerous.
The double standards are exposed again, but nothing changes. And it does affect our season. Its a cause of extra anxiety that players in other teams dont have to face at the very least.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Im almost glad for what gallas did. I dont think it was intentional, and its a shame it ended up hurting one of their players who I dont think was playing unfairly, and was actually doing quite well for them, but its nice to get one back on them and hear them "whine".
If theyd done that to one of our players and managed to get a draw or something theyd be bragging about how they "roughed us up". They couldnt knock us and the tables were turned and guess whos upset about it now!

    ReplyDelete
  26. I AM in some Parallel Universe.... Bolton accusing us of Ruffing them up and Assaulting their players, I like it here..
Kevin Davies is Gary Lineker and Robinson is a John Inman.
They usually like to give it out, if you live by the Sword you Die by the Sword, hopefully the monkey northerners will understand this metaphor

  27. Lets analize the tackles of both teams frm the 2 games and see who made the wosrt tackles.

    Wenger's wise words!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  28. "I am sorry if the tackle was not good and I apologise."
    Arsene Wenger.
So why the bullcrap? Could it be the media are trying to put Arsenal off their stride, because sitting top of the Prem wasn't part of their grand design at the start of the season?
